One of Posao.ba's clients from Sweden had a brilliant idea of starting a new software development company in Sarajevo. They are looking to employ someone who will be the designated ringmaster and help bring this idea from dreamscape to reality.
 
A bit about the idea
We struggled a lot while trying to find an appropriate name for this role. Chief Operations Officer, Chief of Technology, Lead Software Developer or Architect, all of these were an option, but eventually, we settled on Project Manager (PM), because it best describes the broad scope of activities and implies future development opportunities. In the beginning, this new company will work with a well-respected international brokerage firm with around 300 employees, and it will be dealing with the development of a new internal business-management system. You as our Project Manager will spend around 20% of your time dealing with day-to-day operations of the office, and around 80% of the time on project management. Even though in the beginning, the company will put emphasis one this client, the plan is to have an outsourced development center in B&H for a variety of clients, so the PM role itself has a long-term perspective.  
 
Which activities await?
The PM is a member of the executive management group and is thus responsible for the sound management of the company’s development and profitability. The role will report directly to the CEO. If you had experience in leading projects from scratch to stars, you just might be the right person for us. We’re looking for a doer, someone who can recognize what needs to be done and motivate people to achieve this. Consequently, this role has managerial responsibilities (6-8 people by the end of 2018). We would love you even more if you could recruit new people from your own network of contacts. You will be involved in building this new agile team. We would love for our PM to have experience with development, testing and commissioning system improvements from clients, hopefully in a continuous delivery manner.
 
How we see this Ms. or Mr. Right
First and foremost, we see you as someone with several years of practical experience in software testing, configuration management, cloud services, application management and automated release management. It would be great if you had experience (not necessarily hands-on) with some if not most of these areas: script languages, version management systems such as GIT, SVN, ClearCase etc., cloud services, automation frameworks (e.g. Jenkins, Chef, Puppet, Ansible etc.), build automation (e.g. Maven, Ant, Make, CMake etc.), and test automation (e.g. Selenium, FitNesse, Ranorex etc.). Due to constant communication with the clients and colleagues from Sweden, proficiency in English (upper intermediate, B2+ level) would help you get around. It does not matter where in B&H you come from, as long as you have the right experiences. Same goes for educational background, even though we would love our PM to have a university degree.
 
Things that'll get you to think about this opportunity
Since this is a new position in a new company, we don't really want to cage your expectations with some kind of a financial range. It's much more important for us to hear what it is that you would like to have. We cover everything from medical and pension insurance to relocation if you're not from Sarajevo. Let's not forget the part-ownership opportunity, given that this is a new venture, and you'll be the bigshot in the story. You'll get to recruit and help hire all of your team members, disseminate the company values to these people, and help them reach their full potential with you as their colleague. This is why a positive, dynamic problem solver will work best as our PM.
